  • WHITE WILLOW BARK POWDER

White Willow is a bitter, digestive herb, with the bark being the potent part.

Famous for being the original source of salicylic acid (the precursor to aspirin), but unlike aspirin, it does not thin the blood. Used for thousands of years to relieve joint pain and to manage fevers. An excellent remedy for arthritic and rheumatic pain affecting joints such as hips and knees, and also the back. It relieves inflammation and swelling, improving mobility in aching, painful joints.

The anti-inflammatory properties of White Willow Bark have been known for generations

White willow bark is usually ground up into a powder which is easily fed to horses..
Treatment may be aimed at improving circulation, speeding up the body’s ability to heal itself, and helping to prevent scar tissue. White willow bark is known as an antiseptic, analgesic, tonic, and astringent. The proportion of salicin present can affect results, but it works generally well as a 'bute' replacement with no side effects such as those associated with aspirin. Can be used safely for long periods.

The balance of combined ingredients found in white willow bark poses almost no ill-effects on the gastro-intestinal tract. Aspirin, even in tiny doses, can cause ulcers, blood-vessel fragility and irritation to the digestive system.

White willow bark can be used in an external hoof-oil preparation for general healing and hoof health.
* Mix with linseed (flaxseed) oil and apply as needed. Use as a hoof-problem preventative, or to improve circulation of the hoof.

White willow bark extract even in quite high dose levels and prolonged use has almost no effect on the gastro-intestinal tract. Aspirin, on the other hand, in even moderate doses and for relatively short periods, can cause ulceration and worse in the stomach and the gut.

Can be used if your horse has suffered an injury, sore joints, has swollen legs, sore back, onset arthritis or sore from competition
